Devin Marks Landes
March 20th, 2023
December 28, 1980- March 20, 2023 Native of Santa Cruz Family and Friends will gather on May 27, to say farewell to a beloved son, brother, nephew and friend, Devin Landes who passed in San Jose. Born in Santa Cruz, Devin attended Branciforte Elementary and Junior High and graduated from Harbor High School. Beginning his college studies at Cabrillo and later UCSC, he was studying San Jose City College at the time of his passing. Devin also worked in the carpentry trades in Santa Cruz for several years. He was an accomplished musician and played in the school band and the Santa Cruz Youth Symphony. He was a familiar figure as a member of many local rock and punk bands in high school and later the music scene in San Francisco while working as a software engineer. He will be affectionately remembered as a gentle person with the ability to simplify and teach complex ideas, art, and music to both young and old. His love of teaching and his natural talents were recognized and appreciated by friends, family, teachers, and coworkers. At a young age, Devin taught himself computer programming and to play music. He was a skilled at playing piano, drums, guitar, bass, timpani, cello, harmonica, and accordion. He composed beautiful tunes, and was a voracious reader; possessing a lifelong love for reading and acquiring knowledge on many subjects in particular psychology and sciences. A compassionate young man with a creative and sensitive soul of a musician, artist, teacher and philosopher, he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his parents Don Landes and Deborah Marks, his sister Talia Landes, his brother and sister-in-law Matt Landes and Jen Grant Landes, his aunts; Leslie Marks, Daphne Muse, Nancy Callaghan, and Tanya Lawson. Devin also leaves his uncle Mike Landes; his cousins Crista Lawson Harter, Anyania Muse, Maelia, Elijah, Mason, and Lawson; nephews; Benjamin Landes, Zack Stack; and his nieces Zadie and Zoe Stack. His uncle David Landes, his maternal grandparents, Bernie and Addy Marks, and his paternal grandparents, Art and Margaret Landes, preceded Devin in death. A celebration of life will be at the Landes home on May 27 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (R.S.V.P. [email protected]) if you would like to attend. You may also visit the Benito and Azzaro Homepage to share your reflections and condolences with his family. An act of charity can be made in Devin’s memory to Santa Cruz N.A.M.I or World Wildlife Fund.
