Devinder Singh Powar

Devinder Singh Powar, passed away on April 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He had battled quite bravely these last few months as his health took a turn for the worse. He was a caring father, devoted husband, beloved brother and a loving grandfather. To the community and especially to those in need, he was known as a dear friend who gave wholeheartedly. He was born April 13, 1948 in the Village Mithapur, Jalandhar, located in Punjab, India, to father Dharm Singh and mother Pritam Kaur. He and Jaspal Kaur Kang got married in 1970 in India. They came to the U.S. in 1977 and started their life here in Yuba City. He started as a farm worker until the family established the Queen Penny Tire Store in Yuba City. He was active at the store and enjoyed spending time with customers. He was preceded in death by his parents Dharm Singh and Pritam Kaur and his brother-in-law Surinder S. Athwal. He was blessed with 3 children, Manjit Shanker (son-in-law Jaswinder Shanker), son Ranjit Powar, son Jagjit Powar (daughter-in-law Kuldeep Powar). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, grandsons, Jasdeep, Jason and Amani Shanker, granddaughters Kimran and Ashvin Powar and his loving sister Joginder K. Athwal and brother Inderjit Powar, both of Yuba City. Devinder Powar will remain in the hearts of his family and friends and all those whom he met and treated with much kindness with his kind heart and his wonderful sense of humor. Services will be on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Final prayers will follow at Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, Yuba City.
