Diane K. Murphy

Diane K. Murphy, 67, of Baldwinsville, New York, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 17, 2018. She was born on January 8, 1961 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of the late Michael and Betty Jane (Langley) Murphy. Diane graduated from Oswego State University where she received her Master’s degree in early education. She was retired from the Syracuse city school district where she spent 30 years at Roberts Elementary teaching a range of early elementary grades. She was active in the Syracuse Teachers association as well as the NYS Teachers association. Throughout her retirement Diane continued her education and the opportunity to learn and grow by taking part in a variety of classes through Oasis. It was through these classes that she discovered her passion for painting, creating many special pieces for her family. Diane was very well known for her story telling abilities, and shared “Diane’s stories” throughout the area in schools, nursing homes, at local events, and most memorably after family dinners. She also enjoyed spending time volunteering at the Baldwinsville public library and was affiliated with the salt city storytellers. Diane is survived by her brother, Michael (Valerie) Murphy; nieces, Amy Murphy and Jenna (Erik) Mattox; along with her great nieces, Aliyah and Marleigh; great nephew, Micah; best friend, Carol Cereo; many beloved cousins and friends; and her cherished cat, Beau. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
