Dodie Ricca-Sando, 73, of Aurora, CO passed away October 8, 2014 in Aurora. Dodie was born August 2, 1941 in Yonkers, NY to George C. and Lota P. Kenyen. She grew up in Flushing, NY and later moved to Garland, TX in 1970, then to Colorado in 1978. She was an active Master Gardner during her days in Garland and Colorado Springs, CO. She also worked as a Floral Designer for Veldkamp’s throughout the eighties. She and Tom Sando married on February 14, 1997. She retired from Delta Dental in 2007 and spent her retirement tending to her garden, engaging in family genealogical research, baking bread, tending to her four “fur children,” Lil Guy, Rickey, Sammy and Georgie Girl, and sharing her life with her husband, Tom. Dodie was a vibrant woman. A beloved wife, proud mom, attentive sister, loving aunt, talented artist, gardening guru, doggie guardian, genealogical buff, and amateur rock hound. She also enjoyed the connections she made through her involvement with online activities such as DoggySpace, FarmVille, and Ancestry.com. She never hesitated with a word of advice or assistance when asked. Dodie loved her family, never hesitated to adopt a kid or two from the neighborhood, and touched so many lives with her passionate nature, both in cyberspace and in the physical world. She was preceded in death by husband, Richard T. Ricca; parents; sisters, Georgia and June Kenyen; and daughter, Richelle K. Ricca. Dodie is survived by her husband, Tom Sando; sister, Gloria Kenyen; daughter, Robin K. Ricca; and nephews, Charles and George McDonough; Travis, Richard and Nicholas Curry. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 1991 S. Oneida St., Denver, CO. The family will receive visitors and a viewing will be held at 10:00 am, prior to the service.
