Dolores Kanski

Dolores Braun Kanski, 95, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Preston Health Center with family by her side. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Violet (Hartkopf) Braun and Joseph G. Braun, she spent most of her adult life in Bergen County after marrying Captain Robert E. Kanski in 1946. Together they raised a family and contributed to their church and community through their volunteer work. After the death of her husband, Dolores moved to Hilton Head Island in 1992 and redirected her volunteer service to the Bargain Box and Volunteers in Medicine. She also enjoyed the many opportunities for bridge, travel, and other favorite activities offered by The Cypress, where she lived until moving to the Preston earlier this year. The family is grateful for the wonderful support and personalized assistance she received from the caring staff of both places of residence. Dolores is survived by her four children: Robert Kanski (Marian) of Berlin, MD; Pamela Williams (Rick Johnson) of Bluffton, SC; Barbara Griswold (Scott) of Hilton Head, SC; and David Kanski of Sonoma, CA, as well as by her ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, whose achievements and escapades she followed with great pride and delight. A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 16 at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. A gathering of friends will take place on Thursday, December 21, at 2 p.m. at the Cypress Clubhouse.
