Dominick A. DeTuro
March 25th, 1928 - September 12th, 2015
Dominick A. DeTuro, 87, of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF in Amsterdam with his loving wife Florence at his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of the late Frank and Angelina Ciarmella DeTuro. He attended Amsterdam schools. Dominick was first employed at the Army Depot in Voorheesville, Scotia Navy Depot and the Watervliet Arsenal. Later he was employed by General Electric in Schenectady as a carpenter until retiring in 1989. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and as a Eucharistic Minister, he gave communion to the residents at the former Park Hill Adult Home in Amsterdam. Dominick loved spending time with his family especially when they use to go camping at Niagara Falls and the Arrow Head Camp grounds in Scotia. Over the years he enjoyed making fresh macaroni and ravioli for his family. He was an avid NY Yankees Fan and a NY Giants Fan. As a carpenter by trade Dominick would build furniture and doll houses for his family and friends. On April 9, 1950 he married the former Florence Filiberto. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Schuttig (Michael) of Amsterdam and Ann Marie Albrecht (Karl "Dutch") of Broadalbin; two sisters, Teresa Ruggeri of Johnstown and Mary Natole of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, Karl Albrecht (Margaret) of Fonda, Angela Butler (Ted) of Alden, Daniel Albrecht (Tina) of Rock Ledge, FL, and Rick Schuttig (Jodi) of Branchburg, NJ; six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dominick was predeceased by three brothers, Angelo, Vincent, Anthony and five sisters, Elizabeth, Nancy, Carmella, Susan and Edith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 18, 2015, at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Private burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. May's Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Dominick's memory to the St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to The Foundation of St. Mary's Hospital, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
