Mr. Dominick T. Serge, 91, of Stewart St. Amsterdam, passed away Saturday April 11, 2015 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 27, 1924 a son of the late Carmelo and Theresa Cassone Serge. He was a lifelong area resident. He attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Dominick was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He proudly served in Okinawa and Saipan, attained the rank of corporal, and was honorably discharged after the war ended. His working career included employment at the Navy Depot and the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring in 1982. During retirement Dominick enjoyed spending time with his family and also golfing at the Amsterdam Muni golf course with his favorite foursome of Pete, Larry, and Joe. He was a member of the Columbian Social Club. He was a communicant of St. Michaels Church and then Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Dominick married Caroline Fariello Serge on June 22, 1947. In addition to his loving wife survivors include three children: Janet Santoro of Amsterdam, Michael (Nancy) Serge of Colonie, NY, and Steven (Teri Malone) Serge of Johnstown. Seven Grandchildren: Nicole Santoro, Chelsa Ryan, Jeffrey Serge, Andrew Serge, Lauren Ryan, Angela Butler, & Dominick Serge II. Four great-grandchildren: Riley Brooks, Luna Ryan, Kinsley Ryan, and Caroline Butler. Brother-in-Law, Vito Fariello of Amsterdam and sister-in-law, Joann (Don) Arthurs of Cumberland, R.I. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Dominick is predeceased by his four brothers, August, Rocco, Joseph, Carmel, and sisters Rose Salamack and Carmella (Molly) DeVoe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 15, 2015 at 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church 39 Saint John St, Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Full military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps following the Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday April 14 2015 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY. The family wishes to extend its deep appreciation for the kindness and loving care provided to Dominick while a resident at Wilkinson. Memorial contributions may be made in Dominick's name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 39 Saint John St, Amsterdam NY 12010 or to E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility Activities Fund.
