Donald Earl Flenner Resident of Concord June 5, 1944 - February 17, 2014 Donald Earl Flenner, 69, died Feb 17, 2014 in Concord CA, with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held 11:00AM at Oak Park Christin Center, Pleasant Hill CA. He was born Jay Van Schoick on June 5 1944. He was adopted by Aetly and Lois Flenner on July 14, 1944. Don grew up in Orinda and graduated from Miramonte High School. He attended Diablo Valley College where he earned his AA and his pilot's licence. He went on to study at Heald Technical School where he earned his Computer Technician Certification. When he was young Don flew all over his beloved California. His love of flying was second only to his love of travel especially by railway. He travelled across the United States many times in a VW wagon and motor cycle, with his friends and then later with his wife. He was the ultimate rail-fan and a multi thousand mile Amtrak rider. He and his wife spent their honeymoon on Amtrak for 2 two weeks then later again for an 8 eight week second honeymoon, traveling across Canada on Via as well. He and his wife were 'train chasers.' Dons home church was Oak Park Christin Center where he saw his children grow into the wonderful people they are now and he is so grateful to have been a part of this great family of Christ. His children are his proudest achievement and his grandchildren a great joy. Don's ready smile, love of internet factoids, and ability to tell stories contributed to the loving warmth within his family. He is dearly beloved and deeply missed. Don is survived by his wife Katherine, sister Lory; and children Robert, (Kristin) Allison (Zachary), Atley (Krystal), and Laura; his grandchildren Reagan, Bennett, Ethan and Elijah; his sister-in-law Maggie, and his dog Cow. In lieu of flowers please send donations to KidCompass ministry at Oak Park Christian Center. KidCompass is a ministry at Dons home church, where children who have any sort of disability are provided assistance, so they can come to church and be included in their Sunday school classes and kids programing along all the other kids. This allows the parents to freely attend church, knowing their child is well taken care of. This ministry was dear to Dons heart, not just because his oldest daughter helped start the ministry, but because he saw how happy these children were to be included, and how grateful the parents were that they could come to church every week. Ever since, we've had a special relationship with our military families and we are proud to be certified as Veterans Funeral Specialists....
