Donald C. Goebel

Mr. Donald C. Goebel, 80, formerly of Sammonsville, NY died peacefully on December 24, 2011 at the Wells House in Johnstown, NY. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 8, 1931 he was the son of the late Abraham and Abbie Martin Goebel. At the age of 7 he was member of the Sons of the American Legion of the 147th District in Brooklyn. In 1941 he moved to the area with his family and was a graduate of Fonda High School. For 43 years he was employed at the White Mop Wringer Company as a truck driver until his retirement in 1993. Donald was of the Baptist faith and was a former member of the American Legion in Fonda and the Johnstown Bowling League. He was also a past president and manager of the Fonda- Fultonville Little League and a past Cub Scout Master. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Marines. Survivors include his sons; Donald R. Goebel and his wife Jane of Auriesville, NY, Richard and Ronald Goebel, both of Johnstown, NY; three daughters, Deborah Ford and her husband William of Johnstown, NY, Juanita Saurillo and her husband Joseph of Johnstown, NY and Winonah Loucks and her husband David of Caroga Lake, NY; one step son, Richard Etherton, Jr. of Gloversville, NY; one step daughter, Regina Slatter and her husband Donald of Gloversville, NY; one sister, Margaret Sweet of Sammonsville, NY; 14 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman presiding. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda, NY. A calling hour will precede the funeral beginning at 1p.m. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
