Donald Ray Hackney, 62, died peacefully with his wife by his side, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Meridian, Idaho. Don was born on December 18, 1949 to Freddie and Caroline Hackney in Boise, Idaho. After attending Boise High School, he married Merideth Cooper on December 22, 1967 in Meridian. In 1968, at the age of 19, Don joined the Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged in 1970. He was proud to serve his country. Don worked for Atkinson's Mirror and Glass in Boise and for Inland Glass and Grigg's Building Supply in Pasco, WA. He later went on to own and operate Othello Glass from 1980 through 1986, in Othello, WA. Don and his family then returned to their home state of Idaho, where he established Hackney and Sons Glass in Meridian. Don was an avid sportsman, growing up in the Idaho traditions of hunting, fishing, and camping. He generously paid for processing his big game and gave the meat to elderly neighbors. As a young man, he was a motorcycle and race car enthusiast, spending many hours motorcycling in the Boise foothills and working on or driving race cars at Meridian Speedway. He enjoyed the frustrating game of golf for many years and considered it a challenging sport. His true passion however was fishing for all species. In his later years Don spent many wonderful days fishing for halibut and salmon in Alaska. Again, his catch was often shared with those who appreciated and needed the meat. Don was a member of the Elk's and Eagle's for several years in Washington. He was dedicated to his family and made many lifetime friends. Don is survived by his wife Meri; sons Ace and Tony; sisters Karen Moyer and Chris Hackney of Nampa; brothers Fred J. Hackney and Dan Hackney of Meridian, and granddaughter, Tagen Hackney of Caldwell. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Matthew; parents Fred and Caroline and a sister Vicky Miller. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Accent Funeral Home, 1303 N. Main St., Meridian. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Cloverdale Church of God, 3755 S. Cloverdale Road, Boise. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian, 888-5833. Remembrances can be left for the family at www.AccentFuneral.com.

We Entrusted Donald Hackney's Care To

Accent Funeral Home

A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
