Donald Clapp Hay
June 28th, 1921 - June 25th, 2015
Donald C. Hay passed away June 25, three days short of his 94th birthday. He had struggled bravely with myelodysplasia. He died at his home in the River Isles community in Florida with the loving care of his daughter Susan Emily and her husband Paul Kallmeyer. Don was predeceased by his son William Arthur in 1972 and his son Thomas Donald in 1998. His wife Betty Jayne died in 2012. Don was the last of our Hay clan, but he leaves many beautiful descendents: grandson Thomas Moore of Brooklyn, NY; grandson Philip (Dana) Moore and their daughters Katelynn and Brooke of New Hartford, CT; he knew that their sister, Robin is due in July. He was loved and admired by nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, Florida, and Ohio. Don was born and raised in Wauwatosa, WI. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in chemistry. He was a state champion in the 440 in track. In 1943 he came to Akron to work for the B. F. Goodrich Company. During the war, he worked in an essential industry to develop synthetic rubber. He and Betty lived 40 years in Ohio and then moved to Florida where they enjoyed the people and activities at River Isles. Don’s tenor voice was an addition to many church choirs over the years. He was a long-time naturalist and didn’t hesitate to write to his political representatives whom he felt needed nudged. Don was an avid & accurate golfer into his 93rd year and is surely hitting 300 yard drives in some heavenly place. In remembrance you may make donations to the Epilepsy Foundation www.epilepsy.com or to the Sierra Club www.sierraclub.org.
