Donald R. Herold

Donald R. Herold, 77, of Midline Rd., Amsterdam, passed away Thursday Thanksgiving Day November 24, 2011 at his home with his loving family at his side. Born on September 23, 1934 in Springfield, MA. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division from December 18, 1953 to December 16, 1955. Donald was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady as a Machine Operator and Tool Maker. He also worked for the Cranesville Block Company before retiring. Mr. Herold enjoyed playing cards, swimming, puzzles, Nascar and Football Pools. His greatest love was spending time with family especially his grandchildren. Donald married Elizabeth ?Lynn? F. Seale Herold on June 20th, 1965. She passed away on August 20, 2008. Survivor?s include three cherished daughters, Donna Fraumane Samuel of Hagaman, NY, Debra Weitz of Perth, NY and Diane Bellamy Michael of Amsterdam. Grandchildren, Shannon Cannizzaro Terry of Perth, NY, Charles and Emily Weitz of Perth, Christopher and Vanessa Bellamy of Amsterdam. One great grandson, Anthony Cannizzaro. One brother William Herold of Warren, MA, one sister, Joan Quamme of Minneapolis, MN. Nephew, Donald Patricia Herold. Special cousins, Patricia Taylor and Daniel Hood. His best friend J.C. and dear friend Marty Hughes. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Herold was pre-deceased by a son-in-law- Charles Weitz. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 29, 2011 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Rev. Cynthia Leonard presiding. Interment will be in Perth Cemetery, Town of Perth, NY with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday November 28, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Mountain Valley Hospice.
