Memorial

Obituary Donald Eugene Hockett, son of Dale and Mabel (Rummel) Hockett, was born February 7, 1928 on his parents' farm in Rawlins County, KS. He lived his first 21 years on the farm helping his parents until he met his wife, the 'Country School Teacher', Odessa Nadine Bayer. They married August 7, 1949. This was just the start of their 65 years together. After leaving the farm he spent many years over the roads, trucking. His love for automobiles led him to hauling cars and then on to many other cross-country, coast-to-coast opportunities. After all those years he decided it was time to quit and go back to farming where he was raised. He felt it was the best place to raise a family and that it was far better to have all the family together. While he was back on the farm, milking cows, he decided that something important was missing so he took his wife Nadine and two children; Ricky Lynn and Geneva Lea to a little country church where they found and accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior on April 4, 1966. To this day they always tell each other 'Happy Birthday' on that date. Don's faith was always very strong and solid, his heart full of love to serve the Lord. He was involved with the church where ever he was and also The Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI) in both Kansas and Colorado. In 1978 he left the farm and moved to Colorado Springs, where he was employed with Penrose Hospital for several years before retiring and working for the car auction in Fountain, CO. One of his latest and greatest moments was when he discovered he was of Jewish Heritage, more specifically of the Tribe of Levi. Besides his wife Odessa Nadine, Don is survived by his children, Ricky and wife Eileen and their 3 sons, Lawrence (a Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy), Ryan Lynn and Jeremy Don all of Colorado Springs; His daughter, Geneva Lea and husband Lawrence (Larry) Metzler and their 5 sons; Nathaniel Blair and wife Michelle, Aaron Alexander and wife Brittney, twins Gabriel Wade and Caleb Nicholas, and Jacob Lawrence. Along with those 8 Grandsons, he leaves behind 7 Great-Grandsons, ALL BOYS! He is also survived by a Sister, Velda Lee Clement and her husband Bill, of Weslaco, Texas, a Foster Daughter, Renee Neal and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Mabel, his brother James (Jim), and a Nephew; Dale Clement.
