Mr. Donald T. Ricco, age 77, of Johnstown, died Wednesday morning, February 5, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital. He was stricken at home earlier that morning. He was born October 20, 1936 in Gloversville, a son of the late Augustine and Pasqualina Fraggiosa Ricco. He was of Catholic faith and a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. He was predeceased by four brothers: James V; Robert, Joseph L. and Frank J. Ricco and a nephew, Auggie Ricco. He was also predeceased by two sisters: Marie V. Ferlazzo and Louise R. Sweet. Survivors include: two sisters-in-law: Kitty Horning Ricco and Jeanie Tallon Ricco and her daughter Vicky; nieces: Gina Daniele Ferlazzo Paton John and John Jr. and Cindy Ricco Mason Marvin; nephews: Steven M. Ricco Tracie, Joseph Ricco Jr; Joseph Ferlazzo Jr. Gerrie, David Ferlazzo and Charles Cady. Mr. Ricco was a graduate of Gloversville High School class of 1956. He served in the regular US Army and the National Guard from 1959-1963. He was an avid hunter for years and loved all kinds of animals. He was a well-known Citizen Band radio operator and went by the handle of "Groucho." Don was a former member of the Johnstown Moose Club. He loved traveling, camping, dancing, country music and was a Yankee baseball fan. He was employed at the former Mack's Drug Store in the 1950's, Independent Leather and Karg Brothers for 23 years; also the former Nichols Dept. Store, the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility as an orderly and maintenance man for 17 years where he retired in 1997. After retirement he worked at the Frontier Telephone Company at 47 W. Fulton St; Gloversville, doing janitorial work for the Night Shift Company for 12 years. Don will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
