Donald Richardson
September 11th, 1946 - December 23rd, 2015
On December 23 2015, after attending a family Christmas celebration with close to 50 relatives, Donald C Richardson left this world to go to Heaven to be with Jesus. Donald is survived by his mother, Carol Moller; wife, Geraldine Richardson; children, Robert Richardson(Trisha) and Jeanne Long(Jarrod); grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlyn, Zoe, Sophia siblings, Jane Schafer, Ray Richardson(Linda) Diane Smith(Mark). He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Richardson and his brother, Sidney Richardson. Donald was born on September 11, 1946 in Shelton, WA. He graduated from high school in 1965, married his high school sweetheart Judy, and served in the army for 4 years. Much of that time was in Germany, where their son Robert was born. After the army, they settled in Tacoma and daughter Jeanne was born. Don worked as a meat cutter and eventually had a shop of his own. Later the couple divorced and Don married Gerit in 2001. In retirement Don spent much of his time volunteering and serving the lord. His children remember him as a kind and loving father who encouraged them to embrace the people in their lives. Donald loved to travel. In his youth he traveled to Europe with his German class. During his army time in Germany, he had many opportunities to see the surrounding countries. He loved car trips and camping. He traveled many places including Canada, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana, Utah, Oregon, and of course Washington. Donald loved to work with children, including teaching at an experimental grocery store with Tacoma School District, involvement with church youth group and volunteering at Remann Hall. His recent highlight was volunteering at summer camp with his Church youth group at Delano Bay. Donald felt strongly about serving Christ and his community. He has volunteered with the food bank, answered phones in Crisis Clinics, and more recently spent time visiting others in the hospital and those who were house bound. Donald enjoyed serving and worshipping with his church family at Lakeview Church of Christ. Donald loved to play card games, most recently poker with his siblings and Skip Bo with his mother. Don was a great guy and really loved his people. We will really miss him. His was a life well lived. A memorial is scheduled for 3 pm, Saturday January 2 at Puyallup Church of Christ, 402 5th St SW; Puyallup, WA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donalds life.
