Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes
Donald Joseph Schilke
March 31st, 1929 - April 6th, 2012
Schilke, Donald Joseph, born Easter Sunday, 1929, died Good Friday, 2012. Don, or 'The Halo Kid' as he liked to call himself, joins the love of his life, Claire; his son, Robert, parents David and Signe, brothers Eddie and Ray, in whatever comes after this world. He is survived by JoEllen, his best (and only) daughter, twin sister Dorothy, and sister Evelyn, numerous considerate nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, dear family members and good friends, especially Grace and Gary Silver. Don worked hard until retirement at JJ Lesters in Valley Stream, NY, and ran the bar at Teddy's in Elmont, Queens. He loved traveling to England and Europe with his lovely wife, Claire. Don and Claire moved to St. Petersburg in 1999, where he found a new home at Derby Lane, and made many friends there. He made friends wherever he went, because he was a sweet and kind man, who could tell a good story and lend a buck to those in need. A Memorial Service will be 1PM on Saturday, April 21st at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes, 2201-Dr. ML King Street North, St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to WMNF, 1210 E MLK Jr. Blvd, Tampa, FL, 33603.
