"DeLand, FL - Donald C. Wheeler, 87, died on July 1, 2018 with family by his side. Born December 16, 1930 in Northampton, he was the son of Percy A. and Ruth W.(Peterson) Wheeler. He grew up in MA, served in the Air force during the Korean War and was stationed in Newfoundland. Don spent many years flying planes and the OLD Rhinebeck Airdrome and had moved around to various states, including NY, VA and VT during his 35 year career with IBM. He ultimately settled in FL the for the final years of his life to be close to his daughter. He flew planes, and built computers, devoted his life to his family, his church, and his community. He was an accomplished square dancer, and could grow anything in his garden. Don was a father, brother, husband, teacher, elder, neighbor and friend to every single person in his life. Everyone was considered family, everyone had a seat at the table and there was not a single thing he wouldn’t have done to help another in need. He lived every day to its fullest, and we are grateful for every day we spent with him. He will be deeply missed by all, most especially his wife of 65 years, Roberta E. (Fitts) Wheeler, along with his 4 children, Wendy St. Pierre and husband Roy of FL, Mark Wheeler and wife Tammy of AZ, Chester Wheeler of VT, Sean Wheeler and wife Amy of OH, along with his 12 precious grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Polly Clark of Shutesbury. A graveside service will be held at Quabbin Park Cemetery on Saturday, July 14th at time 3:00 pm. Followed by a gathering at the 'Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' in Amherst. Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice, Daytona Beach FL. For more information or to sign the online guest book, please visit www.beersandstory.com."
