Long time Monterey County resident Donna Lee Baskett passed away peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 77, on Monday, January 19th, 2009 after a lengthy illness of diabetes and cancer. Donna came to California with her family when she was nine and lived in The Salinas Valley for 68 years. She was a graduate of Graves Elementary and Salinas High Schools. Donna and her husband Rufus Baskett owned Patton’s Market in Chualar for 45 years. Donna is survived by her only daughter Lorna, her grandchildren Sarah and Mike, Holli, Nathan and Sophie, her great grandchildren Olivia, Ever and soon to be Quin, and her close family cousins Penny and Barry, Carol, Steve and Rebecca, their children Chris and Judy, Lisa and Scott, Eric and Lisa, and grandchildren Caleb and Luke. She treasured each and every moment with her loved ones as young children, as young adults starting their own families, and was surrounded by all of her family up until the evening prior to her passing. A grave side service will be held at Gonzales Cemetery on Wednesday, January 21st at 2:00pm. Condolences can be mailed to 341 Paone Drive, Boulder Creek, CA 95006. Burial arrangements are being coordinated by Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905 (www.healeymortuary.com). Donations in her honor can be made to the Cancer Society or The Gideons. We love you Donna, Mom, Grammie, Grandma Chualar, Gram D., G.G. Thank you for a wonderful life. You will always be with us.
