William Spitler

In May 1967, Donna sent me a letter from Tennessee Tech saying that she had a summer clerk typist job at Wright Pat AFB, but she wasn't enthused about it. I was in AF Intelligence Officer School at Lowry AFB, Denver, and I had a large furnished studio apartment, so I invited her to come to Denver for the summer. She persuaded Mom and Dad to drive her out and we toured the Denver region together. She saw an ad for a teller position at First National Bank, she interviewed and they hired her on the spot. I then took her to happy hour at the Officer's Club and a line of junior officers formed to meet her. That pretty much booked her for dinner for the rest of the summer. By the end of the summer, she had 2 marriage proposals, ( that I know of) and a permanent job offer, all of which she declined, because she was the Captain of the Tennessee Tech Golden Girls twirling corps and she was determined to complete her degree. I drove her home to Ohio, in my spiffy Sunbeam Alpine convertible. packed to the windows with her clothes, then I headed off to my assignment in Saigon.
