Doris Lavonia Johnson

February 2nd, 1929 - September 11th, 2023

Services for Doris L. Johnson, 94, of Lexington, will be private. Woodridge Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Doris Johnson passed away on September 11, 2023. Born in Neuland, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Elner Lee Moore and Helen Bernice Dotson Moore. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was devoted to family and God. Doris relocated from Amarillo, TX to Orchard Park, NY in 1963, and she helped to start The First Baptist Church of Orchard Park, NY. She was an active member of that church teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and working closely in the Children’s ministry. She later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was an Administrative Receptionist for the Telex Corporation. She would often dedicate her spare time to assisting the elderly who might need help in her community. Upon retiring from Telex, she relocated to be closer to her children and their families in Columbia, SC, where she could actively support them and her grandchildren. Although retired, she used her boundless energy to re-enter the workforce as a rental agent at a local storage facility, yet always making herself available to tend to any family needs. As a shopper, her family could always count on Doris to find the most unique gifts while driving the best possible bargain. Her final days were spent at Carolina Gardens at Lexington, and finally at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care. We would like to thank all the professionals at both facilities who graciously and tirelessly provided for her comfort. Doris is survived by her daughters, Sherryl Carlson (Rick); Barbara Reese (Joel); grandchildren, Ryann Lee, Jordan Reese, Jennifer Reese; great grandchildren, Parker Lee and Jackson Lee; her sister, Wanda Lee Youree; sister-in-law, Winnie Moore and numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her sister, Helen Bailey; brother, Billy Wayne Moore, granddaughter, Lindy Tomlin. May she rest in peace, and may God provide us the opportunity to forever honor her memory.
