Doris Claire McGinnis

Doris Claire McGinnis, age 84, passed away on 9/21/2020 under the care of Hospice following diagnosis of Leukemia. She was a resident of Plantation Estates Retirement Community. Doris was born July ,1 1936 to the late Kenneth Rodarmel and Margaret Llewellyn Rodarmel, in Shamokin, Northumberland County, PA. She graduated from Chester High school, Chester, PA, 1954. Doris was the eldest of 8 children. She married Lawrence Anthony McGinnis October 31, 1954. They raised a family together, living in PA, AL, Washington State, Delaware and then settled in Charlotte, NC since 1976. She was a member of St Gabriel's Catholic church and enjoyed years of singing in the church choir. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald Rodarmel and Kenneth Rodarmel, and her sister, MaryAnn Osborne. She is survived by Lawrence McGinnis of Windsor Run, Charlotte, NC, her children, Anne Marie Sopp and her husband, Edward of Greensboro, NC; Lawrence McGinnis and his wife Cindy of Mooresville, NC; Margaret Mary Price and her husband, John, of Belmont, NC; daughter Eileen Saer and her husband, Henry of Charlotte, NC, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Joan Davidson, New Holland, PA, Margaret Ann, of Huntersville, NC, Nancy Evans, Norwood, PA and Edith Andruscavage, Ridley Park, PA and many nieces and nephews. In light of her compassion for those suffering from mental health problems, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI Charlotte, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, 28204.
