Doris Sylvia Selliken

October 4th, 1925 - February 3rd, 2020

Doris Sylvia Selliken died on Feb. 3, 2020, at The Quarry Senior Living in Vancouver, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Portland, Oregon, on Oct. 4, 1925, the fifth of seven children born in a large Syrian-Lebanese family to George and Daisy Abraham. Doris met and fell in love with Thomas Lafe Selliken, and they were married Dec. 28, 1947. Together, they raised five children, eventually welcoming eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They were founding members of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Southeast Portland and were honored with an award for outstanding service to their church community. Doris could often be found crocheting, playing Parcheesi, visiting the beach and making Lebanese food with her family. Doris was a talented bookkeeper and acted as treasurer for the Lebanon Ladies. She also volunteered for 27 years in the gift shop at Providence Hospital (formerly Dwyer Hospital). Doris and Tom loved to travel with their dear friends, Barbara and Lynn Harris, as well as Doris’s sister Louise and brother-in-law Jim Sahli. Doris’s husband, Tom, died in 2001, after 53 years of marriage. A highlight in Doris’s later life was making it to the finals while auditioning for Wheel of Fortune. Her longtime friend Rose Schulz was a great comfort in her last years. She is survived by her children, her grand- and great-grandchildren, and three of her six siblings. A rosary and funeral mass will be celebrated Feb. 14 at 10:30 am at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 1804 SE 16th Ave, Portland. Donations can be made in Doris’s honor to St. Sharbel.
