Dorothy Lillian Barton Sneed
August 29th, 1919 - December 30th, 2015
Dorothy B. Sneed, born August 29, 1919, went to be with God on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. During the early morning hours, she passed in her sleep warm in bed. Dorothy was 96 years old. She grew up in New Orleans with her mother Anna Mae Keane Barton, father Thomas Francis Moore Barton, older sister Rosemary and younger brother Thomas. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and dancing. She was married in 1942 to the boy next door, Richard "Dick" Sneed, a Naval aviator. Dorothy worked as a loan counselor at Florida Federal for over 20 years and taught Sunday school at St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She and Dick had a son Richard and a younger daughter Nancy. The family relocated to Florida where they built a home together in the northeast area of Saint Petersburg. They were married over 50 years. Dorothy had a passion for life and food! She made great meatballs and macaroni & cheese; she loved sweets and always had room for dessert. Dorothy enjoyed music, she frequently would sing a favorite tune "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries, Don't Take it Too Serious, It's Too Mysterious". Dorothy is survived by her brother, Thomas B. Barton; children, Nancy S. Stitt and Richard D. Sneed; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Memorial and Committal Service for Dorothy Sneed will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:45 A.M. at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10,000 Bay Pines Blvd, Saint Petersburg.
