Dorothy Elizabeth Chapman, 97, of Cayce, wife of the late David H. (Hack) Chapman died September 9 at National Health Care in West Columbia. Ms Chapman was born on July 8, 1924 in Chapin, S.C., a daughter of the late Pearl Derrick and Arthur D. Wessinger. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Transfiguration Lutheran Church where she loved serving her Lord through countless acts of kindness and Christ-like service in all her ways. She was an outstanding cook and homemaker. She also worked periodically as a sales clerk for Tapps, JC Penneys, Howard's Dept store, and at the Winner's Circle restaurant. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Patricia, granddaughter Lisa, brothers and their spouses; Harold, Jennings, Carl (Annie Mae), Elmer (Edith), Raymond (Callie Mae) Wendell (Earline). Surviving are her sons, David, Leonard (Donna), Steve (Natalie), and daughter Jean: brother Heyward, sister Judy Swygert (John Carroll); sisters-in-law Rosmarie, Betty, and Doris Wessinger; grandchildren Blake, Dean, Travis, Troy (Tonya), and granddaughter Jennifer Chapman; great grandchildren Madison, Zach (Laura), Ashley Beaver (Mike), Brandon, Kailey, Hannah; great great grandchildren Abigail, Jayden, Emily, Miles, Finnlee, and numerous nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the staff at NHC and Abbey Road Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they gave to their mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transfiguration Lutheran Church at 1301 12t h St, Cayce, SC 29033. Funeral service for Ms Dorothy Chapman will be held at 2:00 on Monday, September 13 at Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 1301 12th St, Cayce, SC. Pastor Alexander Twedt will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:00 until 2:00.
