Dorothy Sarratt Fleming ?Dot? Mrs. Dorothy Sarratt Fleming of Charlotte, North Carolina died April 22, 2009. In 1946 Dorothy married Dr. Laurence E. Fleming who preceded her in death. She was born February 12, 1922 in Charlotte, NC, a daughter of the late Joncie Hutchison Sarratt and Alexander Reed Sarratt. She is preceded in death by her brother, Alexander Reed Sarratt Jr. She attended Charlotte Public Schools until she finished Alexander Graham Jr. High School, at which time she moved to Camden, SC with her family and graduated from Camden High School. She returned to Charlotte and attended Queens College. She was a member of Trend O Times Book Club, Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. She loved being surrounded by family and friends. In her later years she was happiest when talking on the phone or having lunch with friends. Her friends and family will always remember her infectious laugh that was a part of every conversation. Mrs. Fleming is survived by four daughters, Ellen Bickett and her husband, Jim, of Charlotte, Dr. Sally Shu and her husband, Steve, of The Woodlands, Texas, Laura Doyle and her husband, Ken, of Herndon, VA, and Betty Onsrud and her husband, Bill, of Lake Norman; sister, Betty Jane Cowan of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Bryan Bickett and his wife, Alicia, Jennifer Bickett, Stephanie Shu, Joanna Elkayam and her husband, Avi, Courtney and Hunter Jones, Kelly and David Onsrud; three step grandchildren, Patrick, Marjorie, and Kimberly Doyle; two great grandchildren, Benjamin Bickett, and Ari Elkayam; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor?s choice or Charlotte Latin School, 9502 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277 Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 24, in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC with the Reverend Jeannie Bickett of Unity Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill, SC officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 April 23 at the funeral home.
