Obituary Dorothy Maxine Griffin 1926-2022 Dorothy 'Dot' Griffin passed away peacefully at home in Rye, Colorado on March 2, 2022, with her family by her side at the age of 95. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 5, 1926, to Bert and Eula (Stillwell) Hollingsworth. Dorothy grew up in the Detroit suburb of Warren, Michigan. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Griffin in 1944. For over seventy years, they enjoyed their love for each other and raising their three children. Dorothy embraced being a mother and a pastors wife with grace and humility. Later, Dorothy earned her degree and teaching certification and began a second career teaching second and third grade. She was a musician and a talented pianist. She also had a love and passion for art and created many stained glass pieces and paintings, which her family and others will continue to enjoy for many years to come. She had a love of travel, taking frequent trips with Robert, including Europe and Israel. Her travels also focused on visiting with family across the country. Dorothy and Robert eventually built a cabin in Divide, Colorado where they enjoyed many Christmases and summers. The cabin also provided the perfect gathering place for family. Dorothys family continues to cherish the many wonderful memories that were created there. Dorothy was an amazing cook! She loved to bake. Her fried chicken, apple pie, coconut cake and sugar cookies were second to none. Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert Paul Griffin and his wife Svetlana; daughter-in law, Karen Griffin; her daughter Katherines husband of 45 years, Wayne Dersch and many grandchildren: Michelle (Dersch) and Ben Strange, Tracy Dersch Owens, Allison "Allie" & Jeff Christopherson, Slade & Julie Griffin, Tyson Griffin, Leonard "Lenny" Griffin, Alicia Griffin, Daniel "Danny" & Candice Griffin and Aaron Griffin. She was also blessed with 22 great grandchildren! Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Vivian and Elva; brothers, Russell and Jackie; husband, Robert Lewis; twin daughters, Katherine and Donna; son, Timothy and grandson, Robert Edward 'Bobby". Dorothy enjoyed many blessings throughout her long, full life, and had a strong faith in God that carried her through good times and bad. She made a point of sharing her faith with all her family and friends throughout her entire life. While she will be greatly missed, we are thankful she has found her eternal home. Dorothy's family would like to thank Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Crystal for their unconditional love and care given to her. Your browser does not support this video format.
