Dorothy Lucille Hayes
October 17th, 1938 - April 13th, 2024
Dorothy Lucille Hayes was born on October 17, 1938 to Hugh James Sinclair and Mabel Bertha Ames Sinclair in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2024.
She spent her early life in Washington, Pennsylvania, and moved with her parents to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1948. Dorothy’s father was an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City with the class of 1956. She graduated from Phillips University at Enid, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1960.
She was married to Phillip L. Hayes on June 15, 1958 at Belton Christian Church in Belton, Missouri with her father officiating. She is the mother of a daughter and a son.
While in college, she worked in the Phillips University and Phillips Graduate Seminary libraries. She also worked approximately ten years as head librarian for a small public library. Her other employment includes working for a contract janitorial service, a contract packer for a moving company, as a store representative for a greeting card company, and for a clothing retailer’s distribution center. She was a helpmate with her husband in the Christian ministry for nearly 62 years.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting cotton dish cloths, and working find-a-word and dot-to-dot puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of the home; daughter Karen (Glenn) Tamblingson of Sedona, Arizona; son David (Regina) Hayes and grandson Ryan Hayes of Aurora, Illinois; and her bonus granddaughter Mariah Unruh.
She will be laid to rest near her parents and paternal grandparents in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, or Abode hospice, in Dorothy's honor.
