Dorothy A. Poirier

" Dorothy A. (Christiansen) Poirier, 70, of Haynes Hill Road died at home on Tuesday, May 4, after a short illness, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Ware, August 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Hale) Christiansen. Dot grew up in Palmer and has lived in Brimfield for 52 years. She was retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she worked for the Department of Public Welfare for 15 years before retiring in 1996. A communicant of St. Christopher’s Church, she was active in its Catholic Women’s Club. She was an avid volunteer at Harrington Memorial Hospital and was also a volunteer reader at Wales Elementary School. Dot’s favorite pastime was gardening and she also loved to travel. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 51 years, Leonard, her brothers Gordon H. of Palmer and George A. of Hudson, FL, along with several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Carl H. Poirier in 1989. Funeral services will be Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story Palmer funeral Home, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church. Burial will follow in Brimfield Cemetery.
