Dorothy J. Spence
August 9th, 1932 - June 5th, 2013
Dorothy J. "Dottie" Spence of Tucson, AZ was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 9, 1932, and passed away June 5, 2013 after a five year battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by parents Florence and John Jacob, husband George, and brother Bob. Dottie is survived by her children John (Phyllis) Spence, Laura (David) Valenzuela, and Katherine (Mark) Castro, and grandchildren Richard, Andrew, Halen, Madeleine, Matthew, and Lucas. Dottie is remembered lovingly by her brother Jack (Betty), sister-in-law Ruby, and many nieces and nephews. She married George Spence in 1954 and moved to Tucson in 1958. Dottie started as a volunteer for the Tucson Pops Orchestra in the late '50's, and has been the Executive Director for the past several years, serving the organization for well over 50 years. Dottie enjoyed classical music, playing guitar, winning at Words with Friends, spending time with grandchildren, and an occasional margarita. The visitation will be held at BRINGS BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E Broadway Blvd., Tucson, on Thursday June 13, 2013 between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Dottie's life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at FOUNTAIN OF LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 710 S. Kolb Rd., Tucson. Reception follows. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the TUCSON POPS ORCHESTRA, PO Box 14545, Tucson, AZ 85732-4545. Please visit www.bringfuneralhome.com.
