Dorothy C. Steeves

"Southbridge - Dorothy C. (Cameron) Steeves, 92, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Radius Healthcare Center. She was born July 13, 1917 in Boston, MA, daughter of the late John Francis and Mary B. (MacInnis) Cameron. Previously working for Boston Safety Council and a buyer at Jordan Marsh, Dorothy was an executive secretary and retired after many years from the Commonwealth of MA-Group Insurance Division. Formerly from Melrose, she moved to Hyannis, where she worked for The Mass Indemnity Life Ins. Co. for many years. Dorothy has resided at Radius Healthcare Center in Southbridge for the past three years after moving to be closer to her daughter and family. At the age of 64, in 1982, Dorothy received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts for the Cape Cod Community College. Also during her retirement, she was a representative for Avon Cosmetics and a member of their Presidents Club. Dorothy was very active and interested in politics and served on many campaigns. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, loved the theater and symphony concerts and very involved with the First Baptist Church in Hyannis. Since living at Radius she became involved with the activities there along with Central Baptist Church in Southbridge. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Donna Oberg and her husband Ron of Brimfield, MA, son-in-law William Gasperack of W. Springfield, MA and a brother, Herbert Cameron of Weymouth, MA. Dorothy also leaves grandchildren Laurel Boland and her husband Edward of Brimfield, Keith Oberg and his wife Kelly of Charlotte, NC, and 5 great grandchildren, Emma Boland, Chloe Boland, Lydia Boland, Gavin Oberg, and Owen Oberg, along with her beloved cat, Tia as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Gasperack in 2006 along with her sisters Virginia MacLeod and Phyllis Stephens. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff at Radius Healthcare for their extraordinary loving and compassionate care provided to Dorothy. A funeral service will be on Thursday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 No. Main St. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. A calling hour from 10:00 to 11:00 will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to The First Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Hyannis, 486 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 or Academy for Life Long Learning, Cape Cod Community College, 2240 Iannough Rd., West Barnstable, MA 02668.
