Dortha Metheny
February 26th, 1923 - October 4th, 2007
Prior to 9:30 Services beginning at 8:30 AM Dortha Jean Metheny, 84, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 4, 2007. Dortha was born on February 26, 1923 in Johnson County, Arkansas to James and Orpha (Henderson) Hodges. She attended High School in East Prairie, MO, where she was a member of the Girls Basketball Team that won the State Championship.On June 14, 1941, also in East Prairie, MO Dortha married her sweetheart, Charles Metheny. Most of her adult life she worked as a beautician, while raising her and Charles’ family. When not working, Dortha enjoyed fishing, golfing, cards, bingo, and going to the casino. She also loved watching tennis and remained a huge fan of basketball, especially the Seattle Sonics. She was also a member of the VFW. Dortha is survived by her daughter Charlotte Ann and son-in-law Joe Bannwarth; four sisters, Kathleen Hasbrouck and husband Joe, Louise Tibbits and husband Lee, Winnie Comer and husband Willard, Peggy Prowse and husband Jack; five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, her daughter Charla Jean, and her brother James Ray Hodges. There will be a funeral service at 9:30 AM on Monday, October 8, 2007 at the Masonic Lodge located at 521 North St SE, Tumwater, WA. Burial will follow at Mills and Mills Memorial Park on Littlerock RD, Tumwater, WA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Providence Sound Homecare and Hospice, PO Box 5008, Lacey, WA 98509.
