Douglas James Beard, 62, of Summerville, South Carolina, by way of Wrightstown, WI, passed away unexpectedly July 14, 2018 of a massive heart attack. He was born on October 27, 1955 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to John and Cathleen (Lasee) Beard. He and his wife Dale were married on January 3, 2004 and moved to South Carolina in 2007. Doug worked 26 years as a correctional officer at the Green Bay Reformatory and the Oshkosh Correctional Institute, retiring in the position of sergeant. While finishing his career he went to school to receive an associate’s degree in the field of culinary arts. While in South Carolina he worked as a chef and recently as the gate check attendant at Yeamans Hall Country Club, in Hanahan, SC, a job he absolutely loved and was loved in return. Doug was an avid Packers, Badgers and Brewers fan but his biggest fandom was for his three granddaughters. He loved to golf and in the last year he took up shore fishing in the Atlantic Ocean as a hobby. For many years Doug coached basketball at multiple levels in the Wrightstown basketball program, worked the chain gang at Wrightstown home football games and refereed middle school football games, and also coached his sons in little league baseball. Doug is probably remembered for leading the league in technical fouls but also leading the league in respect, admiration and friendships with the multiple players he coached throughout the years. He will be missed by many in the Wrightstown athletic community. We would like to thank everyone for all the kind words about Doug and the support we all have received. Doug is survived by his wife Dale; two sons Eric Beard, Wrightstown; Brandon (Amanda) Beard, three granddaughters Madelyn, Elly and Ava, De Pere; stepson Tim Krueger; brothers Dale (Debbie) Beard, Donald (Maggie) Beard, Dennis (Judy) Beard, Dave (Mary Jo) Jetton and Bill (Lynn) Jetton; and sister Donna (Maurice) Ehlert; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Barbara Beard; and brothers Dan, Dean and David Beard. Per Doug’s wishes he was cremated and did not want a formal funeral. To meet his wishes, in lieu of a funeral we will be having a celebration of life event. Details of when and where this event will be held will be shared in the near future. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the family. Please send c/o of Dale Beard, 9617 Oldbury Road, Summerville, SC 29485-4021. Arrangements are being handled by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services Summerville.
