Douglas Carpenter

March 28th, 1972 - February 6th, 2024

Today we gather, our hearts heavy with sorrow, to honor and celebrate the life of Doug Carpenter – a life that was unexpectedly cut short, but a life that was lived to the absolute fullest.

Doug was the beloved son of Jim and Kelly Carpenter, best brother ever to Amy (Tom) Meier and Sarah (Chris) Timmer and “uncle and homie” to Mikey Meier. He was the cherished husband and best friend to his wife, Kim Carpenter and Dexter’s eternal wingman and loving daddy.

Doug’s journey began in Scappoose, OR his hometown where he graduated from Scappoose High school in 1990. In 1992, inspired by his Dad, Grandpa and Uncle, Doug chose to serve his county and enlisted in the Army.  After basic training, he was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana as a medical specialist and served there until  his honorable discharge in 1996.

Returning to Scappoose, Doug joined the Scappoose Police Department as a reserve officer that same year. His dedication led to a full-time position in 1997.  Over the years, he rose through the ranks becoming a corporal in 2000, and a sergeant in 2006.  In 2014, Doug retired from the Scappoose Police Department, leaving behind a legacy of honorable service, commitment to duty and personal integrity.

Doug’s many, many friends had the privilege of having the type of friend you could call at any time. Even in the middle of the night, you could be certain that he would do everything in his power to help in any way he could.  While his good humor and bursts of laughter were a bright spot in every gathering he was in, it was his loyalty and dependability that were the hallmarks of his friendships.  So many of us all will deeply miss being able to send him a text or give him a call just to talk.

In 1999, Doug married the love of his life, Kim and their lives together have been filled with adventure, laughter, and the quiet moments at home they both valued. Doug loved Kim fiercely and In Kim, Doug found his perfect partner to support him through life’s challenges and celebrate the many joys they found in their families and friends. For Kim, Doug was her home and heart and will be so desperately missed.  Their pride and joy, Dexter, completed their little family, filling their lives with silly antics and barks and growls of sheer happiness. His presence in Doug’s absence is a comfort and connection to the man they both loved.

The impact of Doug’s life will be felt by his family and friends for the rest of our lives.  We honor his memory by loving and supporting those he loved and being the type of people that he would be happy to sit with on a patio, have a drink with and talk the night away.

Doug, may you rest in peace and in the knowledge that you will always be loved, always be missed, and forever remembered.
