"I was at the big bang.  I have traveled millions of light years across the universe.  I have been in the core of stars and in the frozen emptiness between them.  I will persist until the end of the universe.  And, for the briefest cosmic moments, I coalesced into something that could understand the profundity of it all."  - Unknown

Douglas Alan Hall passed away on March 26, 2024, in Lakewood, Colorado, where he lived for the past 40 years.  He was born on January 14, 1958.  Doug was a very wanted child.  I remember sitting on the back porch of our house on Cook Street with Denise and our parents.  I was about 5 or 6.  Mom and Dad were talking about the child mom was carrying and how much they wanted a boy.  We saw a falling star and  we all wished for a baby brother and a few months later, Doug was born.  Denise and I lugged little Douglas around, playing with him and having so much fun.

Doug played clarinet, was a boy scout and played baseball in his youth and all the Hall children attended Carson Elementary, Hill Junior High and George Washington High School. When Doug was growing up, I remember him saying all he wanted was to be tall and have a family.  He got both those wishes.  He married the love of his life, Andy Boeker, in 1985, and they had two wonderful boys, Lucas and Jacob.  They were the first grandchildren in both families and everyone loved them so much.

Doug attended an Aviation Technician Program for 2 years, but after he graduated, he became an Automotive Technician instead. The knowledge of engines transferred to cars and he worked at a few places before settling in at the Honda Dealer in Boulder where he stayed for over 30 years.  He retired 10 years ago (with a short stint at Starbucks) and lived quietly with his beloved cat who was named after his grandmother, Minnie.

Family was everything to Doug. When he wasn't with them or at his job, he was riding his bike or working on anything mechanical especially cars, motorcycles and clocks. He was a mechanical genius and could fix almost anything. Whenever anyone had a problem with their vehicle, they would call Doug.  He would either give advice or more than likely tell you to bring it over to his house and he would fix it for you. He loved puzzles and his current project was a 2000 piece Lego model of a dune buggy which his boys have vowed to finish.

He loved clocks and watches, especially his two grandfather clocks, one of them inherited from his grandfather.  He learned how to keep them running through the years.  He owned a motorcycle and loved fast cars.  His team was the Broncos and he cheered them on through their winning seasons and even through the drought of the last five years.  He had a passion for riding bicycles and once rode the bus with his bicycle as baggage all the way to 100 Mile House, BC, Canada, to Debby and Martyn's place.  He stayed a few weeks and helped build their log house and then rode the bike 1,540 miles back to Denver.

Doug was a true gentleman.  He was funny and sometimes downright silly.  He could make a table full of diners laugh all through dinner without even trying.  He could have been a stand up comic, but didn't really need the attention.  He was down to earth, hands on, and he got things done.  He charmed people almost without trying and during his hospital stays in the last few years he endeared himself to the nurses and doctors.  Don't get me wrong, he wasn't perfect. Doug could be cranky, sarcastic and annoyingly right, but he was always a sane voice in an insane world.  We will miss him terribly.

He leaves behind two sons, Luke and Jake Hall, Jake's girlfriend, Sage Beachem, his ex-wife/best friend, Andy Boeker, along with his sister, Debby Hall, her daughter Flora Daniels and grandchildren, Parker and Harmony Daniels, his other sister, Denise Proper, her husband Jeff and their children, Julia, Jessie and Jonathan Proper. Both his parents, Don and Darlene Hall predeceased him by a few years as did his father-in-law, Hal Boeker.  His mother-in-law, Pat Boeker, also grieves his loss. Our cousins, Susan, Scott and Cindy traveled from Maine and Oregon for the memorial service.

After Doug passed away, he left Denise a message:  "Don't be sad, be happy.  I am out of pain.  I'm up here with everyone."
