Gone but not forgotten

Douglas Elmer Kaiser

CMSGT, U.S. Air Force, Retired

100% Disabled American Veteran

27 Oct 1945 - 03 May 2024

Douglas Elmer Kaiser, 78 years old, entered into the gates of Heaven to be with the Lord for eternal rest, on May 3, 2024, in the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Doug was born on October 27, 1945, to the parents of Elmer and Geneva (Wiest) Kaiser in Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

Doug joined an older brother, Louie. As older brothers do, Louie always helped little brother Doug growing up on the family farm near Louisburg, Wisconsin.

Doug was later joined by brothers Niles, Elmer, Dan, and sister Charlotte.

He attended and graduated from St. Joseph's grade school in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

Following grade school graduation, he attended Cuba City High School in Cuba City, Wisconsin and graduated in 1963. During high school, he and Louie worked on the family farm milking cows, feeding hogs and chickens. Both Louie and Doug played football during high school. Doug also worked on the farm all year long during spring planting, summer baling hay, and fall harvest of corn.

In the fall of 1963, Doug enrolled at Wisconsin State University - Platteville (WSU-P). After two years in college, he left school and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 1, 1965. He attended and graduated from U.S. Air Force Boot Camp, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, with training as an Aircraft Electrician. As the war in Vietnam raged, he volunteered for two overseas duty tours. While on duty in Vietnam, he was exposed to the deadly toxin Agent Orange. In 1967, he returned back to the United States and married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Jean Pluemer. Later, a daughter, Michelle joined the family while stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Doug achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT) (E9), Senior Enlisted Advisor. His last duty station was at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. His career with the Air Force spanned 27 years of active duty. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1992.

Doug’s faith was strong and infinite. Volunteering at Holy Apostles Catholic Church was important to him. In addition, one of his passions was coaching baseball at St. Mary’s High School. The hours coaching with everyone was all about his desire to help student athletes believe in themselves and just do their best. Working at the Grace Center sports complex was his labor of love.

Doug is survived by his daughter Michelle, brothers, a sister, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Geneva, brothers Louie, Bernard, and a sister Mary Katherine.

A funeral service will be held May 23, 2024 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Graveside services for CMSGT Douglas Elmer Kaiser will be that same day at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado with U.S. Air Force Military Honors.

His family would like to thank Winslow Court, Abode Hospice, and all who offered compassionate support to Doug.
