Douglas S Turner
August 2nd, 1930 - December 4th, 2009
Douglas S Turner (just Doug) Another truck driving man has gone to heaven. He was Born in Olympia WA August 2nd, 1930 and passed away at Hospice House in University Place December 4th, 2009. After a long battle with emphysema that left everyone amazed with his ability to pop right back, a gentle soul with a gruffy shell is at peace. His wonderful doctors were heroic at times and kept him going an extra 5 years and he enjoyed flirting with all of his sweet nurses at St Joseph. Preceded in death by his father Henry, mother Margaret, brother Don and step son Bobby Lee, and leaving behind for a while his wife of 30 years, Bonny, brother Ron and his wife Jonnie, sister Peggy and her husband Bill, daughters Joanne Kahlich and Sandra Espinosa, two sons, step children Brenda Bowers, Larry Lee, and Kim Fisher, several *adopted* sons and daughters and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and Fraternal Eagle brothers and sisters from Aerie 3563. Born and raised in Olympia/Lacey, he helped his mom and dad with the rest of his family to operate several businesses in the area. He bravely nailed his sister’s dress to the top of the tree house (with her in it) because his mom told him to keep an eye on her. He spent a tour in the Navy during the Korean War without getting a tattoo. He had a lot of different jobs in his lifetime, including being a lineman, driving for REA Express delivery service, and driving big rigs. He went from driving pilot cars for mobile home movers to hauling them himself with his own truck and putting them in places you would not believe (sides of hills, on top of cement runners that once held a chicken house, and amongst trees so thick there was barely room to move). Then he got involved with the FOE and I mean REALLY involved by becoming president of his Aerie for a year. He had lots of fun and stresses, but loved every minute of it and met many new friends. His living memorial was private where he was surrounded by some of his friends, family and kind caregivers in his last days and he was truly content. Even Santa came by for a quick visit and left no coal. He has left a big hole in our lives, but also has left many fun memories. His ashes will be placed in the care of his wife. Donations if you wish can be made to The Franciscan Hospice House, 2901 Bridgeport Way W, University Place, WA 98466.
