He loved children and creating beautiful smiles on his patients using both his skill and personality. Martin was most proud of his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who shared his faith, values, wisdom and talents with his family and others. In his later years, he relished reminiscing about his youthful adventures with his grandchildren. He enjoyed encouraging others and never lost his sense of humor. In his free time he and Jo Ann enjoyed tennis, bridge, traveling, and were loyal UNC basketball fans. They enjoyed their retirement years dividing their time between Charlotte and Sarasota, Florida. He was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church and Quail Hollow Country Club.
