Dr. James Lovell Stone
December 9th, 1928 - August 24th, 2016
Lexington, KY James Lovell Stone, M.D., 87, died Aug. 24, 2016. Born in the Tampa General Hospital Dec. 9, 1928 to Ruth Sherman Waldron and Alvord Lovell Stone M.D.; sister Katharine Brewer Stone Bucher (has 5 sons); Sister, Mary Frances Stone Orr (deceased, has 2 daughters, 1 son, deceased); a younger brother, Alvord Lovell Stone II. His one and only Wife Betty Louise Richards Stone, together over 60 wonderful years! Most proud of all their Family - to name some: Five wonderful; children: Mary (Kent) have Laura and Stephanie; James (Debbie) have Stacy, Molly and Adam, Michael, Alicia; Thomas (Gina); Ann (Dr. W. "Bill" Payne) have William, Elizabeth and Mary K.; John (Kim) have Samantha. He enjoyed singing in church choirs (when he could no longer play the trumpet due to paralysis). He enjoyed playing golf, painting, cards (Bridge, Cribbage, etc.) He was a past Boy Scout and Cub Scout, member of Demolay, Masons and Rotary. He enjoyed swimming and playing football, Hillsborough High, Aurora U., and Emory U. (Was president of E.I.S.A.) He obtained his Medical technology from U. of Ala., Birmingham. He graduated from Jefferson Medical Col. 1956; after 2 years in the Navy (drafted), he finished Pathology Residency (4 yrs.) at The Reading Hosp., Pa. In 1963 started Pathology practice in Tampa; then went to Ocala, Fla. as pathologist and also Medical Examiner ("Quincy of Ocala"); many interesting experiences. He helped start The Ocala Festival Orchestra; was president of the local Cancer Society; one year president Ocala Medical Society. In 1981, he joined KY pathologists, Resinger, Wallace and Geoghegan. He flew helicopter to 20 hospitals in KY to perform frozen sections; manage labs; perform autopsies, consult with other physicians; brought the practice when the owners retired in 1988. His partner bought him out, agreeing to allow him to travel around the world with his wife!! Wonderful memories!! At 70, he retired for a short time (became bored and depressed) and then worked part time until he was 80. (We had designed and custom built our Park Pointe Dr. home next to Lakeside Golf Course, a lifetime dream fulfilled!). He wrote "Ponderings Etched In Stone" and a "Psalm For Mankind", mainly for use in meditations. He thanks GOD for all his many blessings (Parents, Wife, Family, Friends, Memories and many aspects of Life) He believed in the power of positive thinking: "IN TUNE WITH GOD" Funeral Information Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Saint Luke United Methodist Church at 2351 Alumni Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40517.
