Dr. Patricia B. McRae
September 1st, 1942 - February 28th, 2023
Dr. Patricia B. McRae 80, West Columbia, SC passed away on February 28, 2023 after a long, hard fight with Alzheimer’s. Patie was born September 1, 1942 to CW McRae and Lula Mae Wenzel in San Marcos, TX. Patie graduated from Yoakum High School in 1960. Afterwards, she attended nursing school in Houston, Tx where she became a Registered Nurse and began a career in nursing for 28 years. Patie decided that she had done her time as a nurse and went back to school in 1984 and graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in International and Women’s Studies. Patie was accepted to the University of South Carolina Doctoral program where she earned her Doctrine in Political Science. Patie went on to become a professor of Political Science at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. Patie retired in 2007 back to South Carolina and continued her dog business. Patie was a breeder and show of Havanese and Bolonkas. Patie was also a published author and poet. Patie has three children, Lisa Dury (David), Michael Foltermann, and Wendy DeRouen (Chance), The loves of her life, her grandchildren, Elissa, Devin, Ethan, Megan, Raelynn, and Caden. Great Grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, Avery, Nolan and Lincoln. Later in life after she was able to retire, she really enjoyed her grandchildren. Patie's passion was to write. She was an avid reader. She was always a good ear for listening and would let you vent, then was the voice of reason. She enjoyed her dogs until she could not do it anymore. She has a long list of champion dogs. Patie is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Skip, Joe, Clyde Lee. She is survived by Tim, Virginia, JR, Rick, Donald, David and Sammy. Her Children Lisa, Michael and Wendy. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of life ceremony will be held March 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, SC.
