October 17th, 1930 - January 3rd, 2021
At ninety years of age Dr. Dudley D. Compton (Doc, DeLone, Paw Paw, Dad) passed from this earth leaving behind the love of his life and wife of 66 years Dorothea G. Compton, his son Jeffrey D. Compton, daughter-in-law Lisa W. Compton, daughter Eva C. Crawford and son-in-law John T. Crawford, grandchildren Samuel Crawford, Rachel Crawford, Peter Crawford, Luke Crawford, Brian Crawford, Kalie Compton, Jake Compton. Dudley was welcomed home to heaven by his precious daughter Jennifer, his parents and four younger siblings. Significant life events include attending Hargrave Military Academy and Philadelphia School of Art, serving in the Navy, falling head over heels for Dorothea, graduating from the inaugural class of the West Virginia University Dental School and moving to Charlotte to build a thriving dental practice. He bought and refurbished a little house on East Blvd that continues the dentistry practice today. Dudley was an avid golfer whose quick wit made any foursome of friends, family, pros or celebrities at ease on the course. He was an accomplished artist with a love for realism and story-telling. Much to his family’s delight he wrote an autobiography about his childhood in Rhodell, WV which included the antics of four boys growing up in a coal mining town and their remarkable parents Mary and “Buster.” Dudley was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he faithfully served for many years. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd, 28211 or Living Hope at Ballantyne, 11724 Elm Lane, Charlotte,NC 28277.

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
