Duncan Jay Lanum was born August the 9th,1938 in Evanston, Illinois. He was the younger son of Franklin Lanum and Dorothy Smedberg. Duncan was on the football and wrestling team in high school. His senior year he placed 2nd in the State Finals in wrestling. Duncan was the recipient of the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize awarded "for the member of the class that ranked first in all-around qualities". Duncan attended Dartmouth College where he continued to wrestle and play football. A serious knee injury ended his sports endeavors. Duncan received his law degree from Northwestern University. After a few years with a law firm in Chicago, he moved to Harvard, Illinois and became a partner in a small law firm. While still living in Chicago, he met and married Tracy Graham. They had two children, a son Matthew and a daughter Ashley. While in Harvard he decided to follow his true dream- to be a minister. The family moved to Pennsylvania while Duncan attended Trinity Episcopal Seminary. His first church was in Midwest, Wy. Two years later he became the Minister at St. Clements Church in Woodlake, Ca. Duncan moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico about the year 2000 to take care of his mother. He became an Assistant Priest at the Church of Holy Faith. He loved to make hospital visits and to minister to the residents at the nursing homes and senior living facilities. St.Thomas Anglican Church in Santa Fe became his final church home. He retired in 2019 Duncan remarried in 2003. He and his wife Joy Liles were deeply involved with Many Mothers, a not for profit organization offering assistance to local Santa Fe women. Surviving Duncan are his daughter Ashley, her children Lizzie, Kaelar and Logan Spires and Kymberly Risner and Duncan's brother Rod Lanum and his daughter Allison. Memorial service will be: Sunday March 19th at 11am at Christian Brothers Chapel, 96 Siringo Rd. Santa Fe, NM.
