Dwight Leo Hays, 85, died peacefully in his sleep at Gateway Gardens, Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Dwight was born on January 17, 1932 to Hobart and Mary "Landreth" Hays in Naponee, Nebraska. He was one of 12 children. He and his family traveled from Nebraska to Oakridge, Oregon where they settled. He entered the Army with his twin brother, Dwain, when he was 15 years old. He worked his way up and while in the Korean War he worked for General Douglas MacArthur. After his service, he returned to his home in Oakridge, Oregon. Dwight married Juliana and together they raised their children: Roger, Jackie, Brenda, and Danny. Their four children, spouses, and grandchildren survive them. He had a long-standing career of 31 years with Pope and Talbot and through hard work he retired as the Maintenance Superintendent of Logging Operations. Dwight married Betty on June 20, 1992. They lived in Eugene where they were business owners in their electronics business of RoadRunner Electronics from 1990 to 2013. Dwight loved sports; he especially liked college basketball and football. One of his favorite things to do while in Reno was to bet on the college games for March Madness. He also loved to play craps. He and his wife Betty were passionate about buying collector cars; he really loved working on them and making them better than when he bought them. He was a hard worker and stood his ground for what he believed in. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty and her four children: Jimmie, Arlene, Ray and Karen; their spouses, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There is going to be a celebration of his life on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
