E.L. Greenway

Warner Robins, GA: E.L. Greenway, 81, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 in a Macon Hospital. Services will be at 4:00 PM Sunday at the Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon with burial in the Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins at 5:30 PM. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 PM Saturday at the Greenway home at 317 Forest Hill Rd., Warner Robins and from 6 until 8 PM Saturday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. James Hutto, the Rev. Dr. James Dant and Rev. Scott Kidd will officiate Mr. Greenway is survived by his wife, Flo Mellard Greenway; his son, Edwin L. Greenway, of Macon; his brother, Glynn, and wife Pamela, of Warner Robins; his niece, Diane L. Greenway, and great nephew, Connor Eckstein of Warner Robins; his niece Christy Richards Wright, and husband Greg, his great nephew, William Wright, and great niece, Anna Claire Wright, of Marietta; niece, Tracy Richards, of Warner Robins; and niece, Ginny Smith Stafford, and husband Kay of Vidalia. He lovingly inherited Tavia Mellard Henderson, and husband Jeffrey of Macon; Julie Mellard Eberlin and husband, Kyle of Locust Grove; Elizabeth Mellard Graves and husband, Ling, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and joyfully became granddaddy to Caroline and Logan Graves, Collier Eberlin, Chase, Gadsden, and Parker Henderson, Robert Ling Trey Graves, III and Jay and West Hanckel of Charleston, South Carolina. His devoted friend, Michael Lester, of Haddock, also survives him. His Parents, William Elton and Annie Laura Fortner Greenway; wives, Doris Smith Greenway and Geneva Brown Mashburn Greenway, and brother Daniel Greenway predeceased him. Mr. Greenway was a very active member of his community for many years. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Warner Robins for forty years, serving as Chairman for twelve of those years. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Warner Robins, serving as Deacon for a number of years. He was a Warner Robins Rotarian, with perfect attendance for twenty years. He was a fifty-year member of the Tyrian Lodge Number 111 and Al Sihah Temple and a Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason, of Macon, Georgia and The Sojourners. He was a member of the Warner Robins Lions Club for thirty years, President for two terms and Houston County Shrine, President for two terms. Mr. Greenway was proud to serve his country in World War II in the United States Navy, seeing service in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He retired from government and director of Houston Federal Savings and Loan Association, former President of the Collection Bureau of Warner Robins and the Credit Bureau of Warner Robins, and was President of United Finance and Development. His greatest accolade was Mayor Donald Walker and the Warner Robins City Council naming the Warner Robins Welcome Center the former train station in his honor, today known as the E.L. Greenway Welcome Center. His family will always remember the kind and generous gentlmen, who only wanted to love and protect each one of them.
