Eddie Robert Dyer

May 5th, 1931 - March 12th, 2024

Eddie Robert Dyer passed away on March 12, 2024, at Collinwood Assisted Living in Ft. Collins. He was 92. Eddie was a true Colorado native born on May 5, 1931, in Gill, Colorado. He graduated in 1949 from Gill High School where he was involved in various activities and was the quarterback of the football team.  After graduation, he farmed with his dad in Galeton.  On April 29, 1951, he married Mildred Troudt, his sweetheart who lived down the road. Eddie had a love for farming and he and Mildred started their married life farming and feeding cattle north of Galeton.  They also farmed in an area just north of Greeley by Seeley Lake then to a small farm off of 1st Avenue, which was eventually washed away during a flood. That might have ended the dream of farming for most, but not Eddie.  He never gave up on this dream of farming.  He then farmed one section and ran cattle on the pasture south of LaSalle for five years. In 1965, he bought a farm northeast of Ault where he and Mildred raised their family and continued to farm for about 65 years, until he was 90 years old.  He sold the farm in 2021 when he and Mildred moved into Collinwood Assisted Living.

Eddie was a Christian who was very active in the Baptist church from the time he was married. Over the years, he was an Usher and a Deacon and was on the Financial Board.  He also taught Sunday School and was the leader for a youth group – most recently at the Eaton Baptist Church.  Eddie was also very involved in The Greeley Shutterbugs, a photography Club. Inspired by the beauty around him, he specialized in nature photography.  Eddie visited the grasslands often and walked many miles taking as many pictures as possible. He was an avid sports fan. Staying true to his Colorado roots, Eddie enjoyed the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies, but truly enjoyed all sports.  He was also an avid reader and read many books, his favorite being the Bible. Eddie was gentle, kind and a loving man who was much loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. His favorite times were those spent with his family while following his children all over the state for various activities they were involved in over the years.

Eddie is survived by Mildred, his wife of 72 years as well as a son Allen and Allen’s wife Shawn, daughter-in-law Patti Dyer, daughter Cindy Kaufman and Cindy’s husband Matt, son Rod Dyer and Rod’s fiancée Marla.  He was the beloved grandfather of 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  Eddie was proceeded in death by son Tim Dyer.
