Mr. Edgar M. Beaver age 91 of 3501 Cypress Club Dr. died Friday April 16th at home. Ed was born June 3, 1918 in Salisbury, N.C. son of the late Roy David Beaver Sr. and Mary Nussman Beaver. He lived in Salisbury until 1942 when he left to join the army during WWII, where he served until the end of the War, October 1945. During this period he served for 29 months in Southeast Asia where he received several combat medals and a battlefield commission. He attended school in Salisbury, NC and was a graduate of Catawba College. Ed and his deceased wife Doris, established scholarship funds at Catawba and Mars Hill College to assist Students who could not pay for their full education. After the war he moved to Charlotte and went into business with his brother-in-law and Brother at Southern Pump & Tank Co. In 1956 he became President of Southern Pump and served in that capacity until his retirement in January 1984. He was one of the Founders of Atlas Steel Products Co. in Raleigh and the following Charlotte companies: Crawford Door Sales Co., Bendel Corp., D&B Finance Co., Equipment Associates and Shannon & Associates. Ed was very active in the Methodist Church as past Chairman of the Board of First Methodist Church, Chairman of the Board of Managers of The Methodist Home for 5 years and was a life member of that board. During his business career he served on the Distributor Advisory Council of 7 major companies whose products were distributed by Southern Pump & Tank Co. Ed was known by his family and friends for his generosity, quick wit, sense of humor and love of family, God and country. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Doris S. Beaver. He is survived by his present wife Elizabeth Beaver, daughter Patty B. Rocklage and her husband Scott of Boston, MA., son William M. Beaver and wife Gail of Charlotte, two granddaughters, Kelly B. Schlenker, her husband Brian and Katie Beaver, three grandsons, Matthew, Andrew and David Rocklage and a number of nephews and nieces.Ed is also survived by Elizabeth?s children Patti Richardson and husband Russ, BurkeLee III and wife Stel, Peggy Maye and husband Steve, Nancy Chapin and husband Robb: Grandchildren Kelly Ingram and husband Trey, Megan Richardson, Katie Huss and husband Galen, Sam Lee, Elizabeth Maye, Carolyn Worrell and husband Tim, Emily Maye, Thomas Maye, Annalee Chapin, Brady Chapin and Great grandchildren, Mary Katherine Huss and Lael Ingram. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Beaver at Providence United Methodist Church on Monday April 19th at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Providence United Methodist Church 2810 Providence Rd. Charlotte, N.C. 28211 or Catawba College, C/O E.M. Beaver Scholarship Fund, 2300 W. Innes Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
