Edith V. Adams

Born on a Wednesday, Edith V. Adams passed on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at The Gardens in Yuba City. She was 104 years old. She is survived by her only child, Carl V. Adams and his wife, Mary Carol Adams. Edie is also survived by her three grand-daughters, Caryn J. Adams (Min W. An) of Colorado Springs, Cheryl S. Beller (Travis M. Beller) of Phoenix and Cathryn T. Reeb (Adam Reeb) of Yuba City. Edie is also survived by three great-grandsons, Dexter, Nathan and Cooper. Edie, as she was known to family and friends alike, was born July 23, 1913, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She lived and adventured in Salt Lake City until the mid-1920's, when her family moved to Los Angeles. She attended middle school and High School in Los Angeles but convinced her dad that Business School was a better fit for her. She began working at 16 and bought her first car. She managed offices and worked through the Depression, often supervising people older than herself. She met Carl E. Adams, her future husband. Married in 1936, Edie and her husband worked for Vinell Steel Co., one of the major contractors on the building of the Pan-American highway in Central America through World War II. In 1948, Edie left the work force, trading her business suits for jeans, and the office for the local community, "Improvement Association", the P.T.A., Little League and Cub Scouts. In subsequent years, Edie became a volunteer in reading for the blind. She raised guinea pigs, selling the animals to Cutter Laboratories for medical research. She volunteered in medical records at the City of Hope hospital, and she learned to paint. Edie moved to Yuba City in 1999 after her husband passed away. She bought a house and explored the neighborhood with her black lab, Cindy. There was always a dog. Cindy was followed by Susie, an Australian Shepherd. Edie began volunteering, teaching painting classes at the Sutter County Library and serving on the Board of Friends of the Library. She was recognized as Volunteer of the Month in Yuba-Sutter when she was over 90. She continued to paint and teach whomever was interested until she moved into assisted living in 2014. Edie attended the First United Methodist Church of Yuba City where she was baptized and became a member at 98 years. The Memorial Service for Edith V. Adams will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Yuba City at Highway 20 and George Washington Boulevard on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 2:00 in the afternoon. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow. In place of flowers, donations are requested to the "Pastor's Discretionary Fund" at the Methodist Church.
