Edith Housewright Brooks, 96 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 1, 2019. Edith was born on April 17, 1923 in Scott County, Virginia to the late John D. and Ella Mae Dykes. She worked as a seamstress her entire life. She enjoyed her customers and always tried to lend a helping hand and make sure everyone left out with a smile. Edith was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Dillard Housewright; second husband, Lester Brooks; grandson, Mike Cox; brothers, JD Dykes and Carlos Dykes; and sister, Anna Lee Bray. Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Mary Marshall and Kay Cox; son, Earnest Housewright and wife Pat; son, Bill Housewright and wife Faye; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Scott County Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow the visitation at Hensley Family Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Carter Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Housewright/Brooks Family.
