Dr. Edith Henrietta Pryce-Arnold peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 18, 2024.  She was born November 1st, 1941, the 8th of nine siblings born within the union of her parents Manasseh Emanuel Pryce and Victoria Josiah Pryce on the island nation of Antigua. She was raised in a God-fearing home as a Seventh-day Adventist, was a Pathfinder, Master Guide, and nurtured with music, love and faith as some of the pillars of her environment. Her early education began at Old Road School, followed by the Antigua Girls High School (AGHS) in St. Johns, Antigua, from 1954 until graduation from 6th Form in 1960, receiving several post high school accolades, awards, certificates, and commendations.

Originally from the village of Old Road, St. Mary’s Parish, Antigua, Edith is the daughter of former local proprietors, entrepreneurs and agriculturalists who fostered a close-knit family, instilling a strong work ethic from an early age. She dreamed of becoming a medical doctor as a young girl, fixing broken wings from birds and checking the pulse and heartbeat of any animal her brother, Roland, would capture. Knowing the pathway to her dream would begin with a clear vision and strong determination, she understood there would be obstacles along the way, viewing them as stepping stones towards her goals.

Dr. Pryce-Arnold attended the Caribbean Union College, in Maracus Valley, Trinidad from 1962 - 1964, completing her teaching certificate in Early Childhood education, returning to Antigua and accepting a teaching position at the St. Johns Seventh-Day Adventist School from 1964 - 1967. She, along with her sister, Albertine, enrolled into nursing school in Bella Vista Hospital, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from 1968-1971 completing a nursing certificate while learning a new language. When she left Puerto Rico, she was fully proficient in conversational Spanish.

Seeking further educational prospects, she enrolled in Washington Adventist University (formerly, Columbia Union College), in Takoma Park, MD from 1971- 1973, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in nursing, followed by pre-med training at Howard University in Washington, D.C. from 1974-1976. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1981 as a medical doctor and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and General Surgery at Huron Hospital, Cleveland, OH 1982 – 1984; Brooklyn Hospital, Brooklyn, NY 1986-1987 and Cabrini Medical Center, New York, NY 1987-1988.

Dr. Pryce-Arnold relocated to Gloversville, NY, joining the staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home. She established an independent medical practice in the early 1990’s and maintained her practice until her retirement in 2023. She shared over 50 years of diverse medical experience both as a registered nurse and as a medical doctor specializing in Internal Medicine and General Surgery. She had affiliations with both the Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home and St. Mary’s Hospital as well as professional relationships with many local doctors and specialists throughout her local communities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties.
