Edmund Joseph Sawicki
March 4th, 1928 - April 3rd, 2003
" Edmund J. Sawicki, 75, of Nonotuck St, died peacefully at home on April 3 surrounded by his family. Born in Huta Stepanska, Poland, March 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Anastazy and Zofia (Jeronczyk) Sawicki. After spending five years in displaced persons camps, the family immigrated from Germany to Millers Falls. In 1950, the family moved to Holyoke where they spent the rest of their lives. Mr. Sawicki worked for Holyoke Wire and Cable for many years before working for Moore Drop Forge in Springfield for most of his career. He later retired from Storms Forge in Springfield in 1991. Ed was a long time member of Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke and was a former Choir member. He was also a member of the Polish National Alliance Group #525 in Holyoke. Mr. Sawicki is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Wladyslawa ''Lottie'' (Dziekonski) Sawicki, three loving children, Lillian and her husband Kevin O'Donnell of Wilbraham, Christine and her husband Jan Janusz of Holyoke, and Ronald and his wife Tracy Sawicki of W. Springfield. He also leaves his five cherished grandchildren Julie and Robert Janusz, Jared O'Donnell and Benjamin and Austin Sawicki to whom he was lovingly referred to as ''Dziadzi''. He also leaves a loving sister Janina Klos of Chicopee, a loving brother John and his wife Stephanie Sawicki of Granby, and a loving brother in law Mieczyslaw and his wife Anna Dziekonski of Racine, WI, along with many dear nieces and nephews. Ed loved the serenity of the beach and the fun of camping, and was known to many as the ultimate ''Mr. Fix It''. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday April 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Mater Dolorosa Church followed by burial in the parish cemetery in S. Hadley. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home for 9:30 a.m. or may meet directly at the church.
