Edna Hamilton Rivers
April 3rd, 1957 - July 23rd, 2024
Edna Mae Hamilton Rivers was born on April 3, 1957, to Evelena Hamilton. Her grandparents raised her, the late Edgar Hamilton and Mary Backman Hamilton, whom she and many others affectionately called “Sister Mary.” Edna attended Charleston public schools and played the clarinet in her high school band. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1975. On March 19, 1977, Edna married her high school sweetheart Willie Frank Rivers and of this marital union had four children. On July 3, 1982, both Edna and Frank dedicated their lives to Jehovah God and were baptized as his Witnesses. Edna attended Limestone College, earning a degree in the fall of 2011. She was employed throughout the years by Charleston County Schools but also spent 18 years at Franklin C. Fetter Family Health Center where she eventually took on the role of Director of Administration. Edna enjoyed sewing, interior decorating, traveling, shopping, and caring for her family. Cooking was her love language. Co-workers always sought her out when they needed someone to talk to. Edna loved animals and spoiled her family cat, a marmalade Siberian named Rylee Oliver. Edna was a member of the Ravenel Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She is survived by her children, Courtenay Rivers, Frank Haven Rivers (Melany), Crystal Eutsey (Martin), Brandon Scott Edgar Rivers, and niece Shaneka Hamilton. Edna was blessed with five grandchildren who enriched her life: J’Niyah Rivers, Haven Elias Rivers, Zoe Rivers, Nicolas (Nico) Edgar Rivers, and Isla Eutsey. Her surviving siblings are Sherry Watson, Howard Hamilton, and Beth Hamilton. A memorial service will be held on August 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 3312 Bonanza Rd., Charleston, SC.
